A fault code does not identify the part to replace
Engine management may report a camshaft adjustment deviation, but several causes can produce the same symptom. Checks may include the actuator, oil control, wiring and mechanical timing.
A functional test checks the response to a command
If the measured value does not follow a test command as expected, the investigation can be focused more precisely than from a code alone. Camshaft values and other stored data are compared too.
Do not replace a chain or actuator by guesswork
If testing points to a mechanical problem, timing and related parts are checked before deciding on repairs. The aim is to distinguish electrical, hydraulic and mechanical causes before ordering parts.
